Alex Birkenstock, heir to the eponymous sandal company fortune, is listing his Setai penthouse for more than double what he paid three years ago. Birkenstock picked up the 3,424-square-foot, 30th-floor pad at 40 Broad Street in 2011 for $5.86 million.

Third on the pricey end this week is a $12.99 million penthouse condominium at 40 Broad Street in the Financial District. The home boasts reclaimed hardwood floors from the Portuguese embassy in Paris, two retractable glass garage doors on opposite sides of the apartment and a corner living space with a sauna bathroom, according to the listing.

Heir to a sandal fortune and a non-active owner of the eponymous company, Alex Birkenstock is no stranger to peddling penthouses that cost tens of millions, considering he offloaded a $25 million triplex in Miami, which set a condo-sale record at the time. Now he’s pulling a similar trick with his 2BR/2.5BA perch atop Broad Street’s The Setai, putting it on the market for $12,995,000.
